This article will explain how a collection agency works and what to expect when a collection agency calls you. A collection agency works by receiving unpaid accounts through their office. Creditors who cannot reach a debtor by any other means will hire a debt collection agency to try and get the money that the creditor is owed. Usually an agreement with the collection agency will be worked out, and a fee will be required from the debtor to pay the outstanding amount. Usually that comes into interest and the collection agencies attempts to collect the debt as well as their costs to do so.

I cosigned for an auto loan 3 yrs. back, now it is in default. I received a summons and answered the fact, in which i denied. my question is I don't know if this co. is legit. My credit bureau just states charge off.....not in collections. Do they have legal rights? I think they got my info on the credit bureau. It has the same amt. and account #, In the bureau the last 4#'s were left out. On the petition it has those numbers listed. Please help. Do they legally hold the note? I will play their game as well. String it out until the sol date expires
