Tips to improve your credit report
If you have a bad credit report, there are a few different things that you can do to make some very positive improvements on your credit report. This is what most people do not realize. If you have too many open or inactive accounts, or you have too many charge-offs, or too many late payments that are over 30 days past due; you really need to start doing some thinking and making some small changes in your lifestyle and the way that you do things. This is what this article will discuss.
If you have too many open or open inactive accounts you need to start closing out the open inactive accounts that you are not using at the present time. Some creditors will say that even one open inactive account is too many. If you have more than three (3) open and active credit accounts, you might want to consider paying off and closing down the one that are the lowest. Having too many open and active accounts is just as bad as having no credit whatsoever to speak of. Some people will think that having more than 3 open accounts at any given time is a good way to make their credit rating better, when the exact opposite is really the truth in this situation.
If you have too many late payments showing on your credit report you might need to re-negotiate your payments with your creditors so that you can pay less. You need to be aware that this is going to lengthen the time that you will be re-paying the loan/debt; yet it might be what you need to be able to have some “breathing room” in which you are not constantly stressed to the limit about how you are going to be able to pay this bill or make the next car loan payment.
If you are making large purchases left, right and backwards either on impulse or just because you are trying to keep up with someone else’s expensive lifestyle, you are burying yourself under a mountain of debt that it will take quite a while to dig yourself out from under. Believe me, this is the wrong thing to do no matter what the economic situation all around you happens to be. This is how so many of the people that are in financial trouble lately really got there: living way beyond their means! If this is the case, you will need to stop buying impulsively and maybe even seek the services of a credit counselor and possibly even go through debt consolidation. You may be told that you will need to sell some of the excess merchandise that you have bought impulsively.
Another good way to improve your credit report is to make at least one extra loan payment each month that you have the loan open; and make certain that you specify that this extra payment is to be applied directly to the principal, or original amount that you borrowed, of the loan, which lowers the amount you owe faster.
